Have a Party

Have a PartyCelebrate earth day! Earth Day is definitely cause for a celebration. Besides, who doesn’t love a party? Serve eco-themed cupcakes, put out some green toys or environmentally-themed books like The Lorax, and chat with friends and family about ways everyone can make greener choices or discuss recent environmental news.

Create a Green Art Project

Create a Green Art ProjectEven if April’s showers ruin a plan for outdoor Earth Day events, you and your family still have plenty of opportunities to create inspired art projects. From basic crafts like making collages with paper from the recycling bin or fabric scraps. Use eco-friendly art supplies, and the Earth Day message will shine even brighter!

Play a Recycle Game!

Play a Recycle Game!Make it a fun activity for the group. This is especially fun if you have a few kids together. Split the kids into teams or have the children play on their own. Give them a pile of mixed recycled goods: plastics, paper, aluminum cans, or anything else that is safe for a child to toss. Near each team, set up 3 bins labeled “paper,” “plastic” and “aluminum.” On the count of three, see which team can sort the pile into the appropriate bins first! Whoever wins gets an Earth Day surprise (special fruit/cookie/reusable bag, etc…).

Explore Outdoors!

Explore Outdoors!Spend more time at nature-friendly destinations, like state parks and beaches. Discover all that nature has to offer.

Clean Up Litter!

Clean Up Litter!Don’t feel like you have to find an organized event to make this happen. Grab a bag and pick a park or stretch of road and get busy. Or join an organized event for a more social experience.

Watch TV!

Watch TV!Tune Into Green TV: on those rainy days when the kids can’t get outside, tune the TV to “Animal Planet” or “Discovery Planet” and allow your kids to soak up the eco awareness.
